14 Favs from 2014

Happy New Year! When I was trying to decide on what to write for my first post of 2015, I though that looking back on the year before and seeing what I loved the most would be fun.  This way, I can compare year after year how my favourite items have changed.  I know that I've been doing a lot of makeup posts lately, and don't get me wrong, I still love clothes, but lately, I've been in a bit of a . . stylish rut.  I've been reaching for big, warm sweaters and jeans or cords most days, and have been spending more time doing my hair and makeup than planning my outfit.  It's probably just a phase, but I've been loving experimenting with makeup, and hope that I'll get better as the months go on.  So for now, lets look to see what I've been grabbing the most over the course of 2014.

1. Kiehls Ultra Facial Oil Free Lotion: I have very oily skin, but still know the importance of moisturizing in the morning and evening.  I'm currently on my 3rd bottle of this stuff, and I love how lightweight it is, and how well it blends into my skin.

2. Volcano Candle: This is my 2nd or 3rd candle.  It's certainly not the cheapest candle, but it comes in a variety of sizes so hopefully you can find one in your price point.  I don't necessarily know how to describe the smell, aside from perfect.  I love to burn it all year round.

3. Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment: This was one of the Sephora birthday gifts a few years back, and I fell in love with it.  It's so creamy and moisturizing.  I love wearing this (and more recently, the tulip colour) as my everyday lip.  It works wonders for those days when you wake up with chapped lips, and can't be bothered with the hassle of a drying, matte lip.

4. Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder Shine Control Matte Translucent Powder (worlds longest name): Like I said, I have very oily skin, and I bought this on a whim back in September.  It does an amazing job at keeping me shine free without looking too flat during the day.

5. Benefit Posietint: I don't use this product as much during the winter months, but through the spring and summer, it is my everyday go-to for lips and cheeks.  I absolutely love layering the Benefit Dandelion blush over this, and a bit of the Dior lip plumper gloss when it's hot out.  The colour is amazing on pale skins, and it lasts all day, even in the hottest of temps.

6. Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Light/Medium Matte Bronzer: Truth be told, I only got this for Christmas, but I'm absolutely crazy about it.  Being as fair skinned as I am, it's hard to find a bronzer that actually looks natural and adds a bit of warmth to my complexion without looking orangey.  This ticks all the boxes.

7. Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream: I've been buying the Christmas hand cream sets for the last 3 years, and always end up going back for more.  It's so intense, you need only the smallest amount, and the smell is divine.  Sephora had a 500 pt perk set with travel sized versions of some of my favourite products--I'd definitely recommend getting your hands on that if it's still available!

8. Real Techniques Brushes: They are inexpensive, soft, and do an amazing job at applying the product.  And you can often find them at stores like Winners for even cheaper.  A must have for everyday application.

9. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: I had been using the Rimmel Wake Me Up before this, and found the consistency too watery for my liking.  This one is thick enough to cover even the most stubborn of under eye circles and acne spots.

10. Too Faced Shadow Insurance: I've been repurchasing this product for probably the last 6 years or so.  It's hands down the best eyeshadow primer on the market.

11. Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes: Again, this has constantly been in my stash for about the last 6 years.  It lasts all day and never budges.  It comes in a huge range of colours.  Clear winner.

12.  Anastasia Brow Wiz: I dyed my hair auburn last year, so I was content on using drugstore eyeshadow brushes, as I needed that red tinge.  But as my hair faded back to my nature dirty blonde, I needed a more ashy shade.  This does the trick perfectly.  It matches my hair to a T, and always looks natural (provided you don't have too heavy of a hand).

13. Essie After School Boy Blazer: I've been a lot better about painting my nails lately (I don't bite them when they are painted, so I need to try and make sure I keep them painted).  This is such a deep navy colour that it almost looks black.  It's easy to apply, affordable, and goes for quite a while before chipping.

15. Kate Spade Twirl Fragrance: alas, this has been discontinued for quite some time.  I'm about half way through my bottle, with another unopened on on standby.  But it's my signature scent (although, quickly being replaced by the DKNY MYNY).  If you can still find this, then you won't regret picking it up.

I hope everyone had a great 2014, and is looking forward to an even better 2015! Happy New Year!

Until next time,

xoxo K
