Rodial X Poppy Delevingne: Makeup Recreation

|
I'm trying something a bit different today--I know, I surprised myself too. I was sent a press release for a gorgeous look that Poppy Delevingne wore to a Rodial event, and some of the products she used. While I'm no where near as flawless as Poppy, I still thought it would be fun to recreate the look. I ended up trying the products out for my birthday dinner (although I paired it with a sweater, jeans and boots because it was freaking cold!). Keep reading to see how it turned out!

The liner was really easy to blend out, and didn't smudge or transfer throughout the night. It also felt comfortable on the waterline; as someone who wears contacts, I find that some liners can transfer and irritate my eyes. I don't often wear black liner, but I think I may be grabbing this one in brown soon!

The eyeshadows are really pigmented and dark, and I had to go in quite a bit with a blending brush to create a more subtle, effortless look (ironic, isn't it?) I love that fact that the palette has equal parts cool and warm toned shades, which makes it very versatile and perfect if you're bringing it with you to amp up your makeup after work.

The highlight is very different than anything else I have in my collection. It's a pen and very liquidy. A little goes a long way with this product (learned that lesson the hard way and had to use my beauty blender to correct my uber glowy face). The colour is actually quite champagne to bronze toned, which is a far cry from my usual silver undertones ones. I find on my very fair skin, if I don't blend it enough, it can look a tad bit muddy. But on someone with more tanned skin, I think this would be stunning! You can apply it very sheerly for a natural glow, or build it up for a more intense shimmer.

I was also surprised with the suede lips. In the picture of Poppy, her lips look quite glossy, but when I applied the product, it comes across as very matte and cool toned. I ended up adding a bit of lip gloss to soften the look. For me, I would pair this lip colour with a really simple eye look, because it can be quite a statement colour. It's a beautiful consistency (very creamy for a matte lip) and is relatively long lasting. It's not on Mac's matte lipstick level, but is also easier to wear and reapply.

These were the products I used to create the look. It includes the Rodial Smokey Eye Sculpt Eyeshadow PaletteRodial Instagram GlowRodial Smokey Eye Pen in black, and Rodial Suede Lips in Big Apple. I completed the look with the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in 110, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in chantilly, Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, Bobbi Brown lipgloss in Petal, and Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Paaarty.

Compared to Poppy's look, I did a more subtle, wearable version. I'm not really into dark, dramatic makeup--for me, this is intense. I think this makeup would be perfect for a night out, and was super easy to create. I used the shimmery bronze shade all over the lid, and the orangey-brown shade through the crease. I then applied the black liner on my water line and along my lash line in a slightly winged format.  I do have a lot of highlight on, but the lighting here washes it out.

I really love Poppy's look, and I'm hoping to wear a similar look again soon! It was also the first time I'd tried Rodial items and I was pleasantly surprised. Let me know what you think!
