"The summer night is like a perfection of thought"

|
I’m very envious of Lauren Rose, from laurenroseprep.blogspot.ca.  She lives in California and tweets about the sweltering heat.  Me? I bought a new coat the other day.  Why? Because I’ve conceded that summer is never coming.  As a Canadian, you think I’d be use to colder weather, but this summer is ridiculously slow in arriving.  I remember 2 year ago walking through the park adjacent to my university in shorts and a t-shirt in March.  This March, there was a snow squall on my birthday.  But because of the horrible weather, I’m determined to make the most out of the short summer season.
Lauren is such a sweetie, and we thought it would be fun to do a collaborative post on summer essentials.  What are your thoughts? Are you more of a west coast, warmer weather person, or an east coast “I’ll take whatever warmth you can offer me” kind of person?

1) What are your plans for summer?
Unfortunately, I’ll be spending May and June taking classes.  Since I switched majors a bit late in the game, I need to catch up on some prerequisites.  After that, I’ll be focusing on volunteer work and job searching.  Oh the joys of being an adult.  But I’ll definitely be making time to blog, shop, read, and travel (local or over-night trips mostly).

2) What do you like to do when you’re bored?
Read.  I love curling up on my swing-bench in the backyard, nestled under a canopy of trees, and spend the day reading.  Literally, the entire day.  I get so caught up in books I completely loose track of time.  It’s amazing.

3) What is your favorite summer snack?
Fruit! I love locally grown fruit, and luckily Niagara-on-the-lake has some of the best fruit in the country (even though I’m bias, I still think it’s true).  I’m partial to peaches (I make a mean blueberry-peach crisp in the late summer), but I’ll eat almost any kind of fruit.  Almost.

4) What is your must have fashion item for summer?
Sundresses.  They are so versatile and convenient.  Nothing’s better than a flowing white dress to get you through a sweltering day.

5) Must have summer nail polish color?
I have a bad habit of biting my nails, so I generally stick to any pale colour (since you can’t see the chips as much).  I love my “It’s hippo to be square” purple OPI polish.

6) What is on your summer wish list?
Nude or navy wedges, like the Stewart Weitzman ones Kate Middleton always wears.

7) How do you spend your summer nights?
If I said reading, would you think I was weird?  Mostly, my family and I have a lot of barbeques and dinners outside, followed by board games (we’re very competitive).  Or watching movies outside, courtesy of my 13” laptop.  Not the largest screen, but we make it work.

Until next time,

Happy summering,

xoxo K
